New Pope Francis from Argentina - former Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio

Pope Francis, the New Pope of the Catholic Church

The Catholic Church has a new Pontiff, a humble Argentine Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, who adopted the papal name "Pope Francis" which lends a new day dawning for the church that was engulfed with numerous scandals in the past months and prompted the resignation of Pope Benedict. He became the Pope in March 13, 2013 after the conclave of 115 Cardinals from around the world casted their vote.

Pope Francis, speaking Italian with a slight Latin American accent, joked with the crowd before delivering his blessing, saying: "As you know the duty of the conclave is to give Rome a bishop. It seems that my brother cardinals went almost to the end of the world."

The Buenos Aires Herald described Pope Francis as "low-profile, austere Jesuit, Bergoglio resisted the gay marriage law, promoted by the administration of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and passed by Congress in 2010. The Roman Catholic Church of Argentina played a role during the country’s 1976-1983 civil-military dictatorship that certain ruling Victory Front officials have accused of “complicity”.

Francis, the son of middle-class Italian immigrants, is known as a humble man who denied himself the luxuries that previous Buenos Aires cardinals enjoyed. He came close to becoming pope last time, reportedly gaining the second-highest vote total in several rounds of voting before he bowed out of the running in the conclave that elected Pope Benedict XVI.

In a lifetime of teaching and leading priests in Latin America, which has the largest share of the world’s Catholics, the former Bergoglio has shown a keen political sensibility as well as a self-effacing humility, according to his official biographer, Sergio Rubin. His personal style is the antithesis of Vatican splendor.

May the new Pope Francis will be blessed with good health always and that he may successfully execute the needed guidance for his church.  God Bless Pope Francis.

Workforce: Their Invaluable Talents and Competencies

People possess talents that are either innate and acquired. These talents are combined with behaviours, attitude and intelligence that will illustrate uniqueness of one's personality. And these are readily adaptable into any type of setting or environment.

©2012 JNTConsulting

Every individual member of a workforce offers a set of skills that cannot be found true from another. The DNA of each person is the differentiator in working style, idea processing, navigating relationships, behaviors, manners, attitudes, aptitude, technical trade and communication competencies.

Across the nation, organizations are struggling in hiring the best people to become a member of their workforce and then retain them in a long term. However, one of the most predictive challenges of organizations is the long term dedication and loyalty of workforce. These is because of one basic reason, organizations of today are not creating strategic career paths, there are no tangible mentoring for professional development of promising leaders, opportunities for advancement for younger one's are limited due to external forces that are brought into the organization, safety net of environment have disappeared, functinal responsibilities are no longer fulfilling and majority are driven mechanically instead of using intelligible decisions of people and their skills to maneuver growth, efficiency and advancement.

Malaysia: Competent Expats and 10 Years Residence Pass

Recently, Malaysia's Department of Immigration has created a Residence Pass Program that will incentivize highly skilled professionals (Expatriates) who would like to live and work in Malaysia for a long term.

Malaysians who have acquired Citizenship outside Malaysia are also given the same privilege.

The Resident Pass will take effect in April 1, 2011.  Its duration is 10 Years and renewable.

Perspectives:
1. It is a great advantage for those who are willing to work and live in Malaysia and  collaboratively share their knowledge and expertise in the economic and professional advancement of the Country and its people.

2. Organizations that will deploy their Expatriates to Malaysia will gain advantages as well in a long term view because their expats can gain long term residency and it will eliminate few bureaucratic procedures in renewing their work permits or authorization in the country.  However, Mobility Managers must be mindful on the taxation consequences of this program.  It will be worth looking the details and its implications to both the Expat and the corporation.

3. Original Malaysians who acquired their Citizenship in other countries can get back to Malaysia under the Program which will be a great advantage. They too can share their expertise and knowledge they gained from other countries with their current Citizenship.

4. Malaysian government is looking ahead on how they can leverage fluidity of better opportunities in the future. This is through a program that will encourage professionals to remain in Malaysia to enjoy its amenities at the same time collaboratively engaging in the development, progress and advancement economically and professionally.

HIRE Act Form W-11 (Employee Affidavit) for New Hires

The second quarter of FY 2010 has significant indicators of employment opportunities. Organizations in different industries have begun recruitment of talented professionals who will partake in supporting their advancement.

In addition, the HIRE Act signed by President Obama will support the business goals of employers. Subsequently, the concerted efforts of organizations which will take advantage of its provisions will be instrumental in diminishing the high percentile of unemployment nationally.

The IRS recently released  the Form W-11 (Employee Affidavit)  for New Hires who qualify under the HIRE Act

The HIRE (Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment) Act was signed by President Obama last March 18th 2010, designed to encourage employers to hire and retain new workers, it will provide employers to claim the Special  Payroll Tax Exemption that will be applicable to many newly hired workforce for the Year 2010.

"The new law requires that employers get a statement from each eligible new hire, certifying under penalties of perjury, that he or she was unemployed during the 60 days before beginning work or, alternatively, worked fewer than a total of 40 hours for anyone during the 60-day period."

The Form W-11 (Employee Affidavit) is the official form that will validate eligibility of the employee under Hire Act.  Without the signature of the newly hired employee on the Form, it will invalidate the claim of the employer for the Special Payroll Tax Exemption.

Employers must retain this document (Form W-11) on file for future verification. Please read the instruction at the bottom of the form on how to use  and comply when hiring an employee who may qualify under this law.

Who will qualify under this Law?
A “qualified employee” is an employee who:
• begins employment with you after February 3, 2010, and before January 1, 2011;
• certifies by signed affidavit, or similar statement under penalties of perjury, that he or she has not been employed for more than 40 hours during the 60-day period ending on the date the employee begins employment with you;
• is not employed by you to replace another employee unless the other employee separated from employment voluntarily or for cause (including downsizing);

It is also wise for a given organization to review the restriction provision of this law, where it identified organizations that cannot qualify for the Special  Payrol Tax Exemption.

The HIRE Act created two new tax benefits designed to encourage employers to hire and retain new workers. As a result, employers who hire unemployed workers this year (after Feb. 3, 2010, and before Jan. 1, 2011) may qualify for a 6.2-percent payroll tax incentive, in effect exempting them from the employer’s share of social security tax on wages paid to these workers after March 18. This reduction will have no effect on the employee’s future Social Security benefits, and employers would still need to withhold the employee’s 6.2-percent share of Social Security taxes, as well as income taxes. In addition, for each unemployed worker retained for at least a year, businesses may claim a new hire retention credit of up to $1,000 per worker when they file their 2011 income tax returns.

Photo: By Time Magazine, Jan 5th 1987

JNT Consulting LLC expresses its deepest sympathy to the family of the late Former Philippines President, Mrs. Corazon Aquino and to the Filipino people. Mrs. Aquino led the 'Poeple Power Revolt' that toppled down the 20 Years Marcos' dictatorship in the Philippines in 1986.

In February 1987, the legitimacy of her Presidency was voted with 80% confidence through popular vote of the New Constitution.

New York Times reported - please click below;

"Former President Corazon Aquino, who swept away a dictator with a ''people power'' revolt and then sustained democracy by fighting off seven coup attempts in six years, died on Saturday, her son said. She was 76."

Mrs. Corazon Aquino has always been admired internationally with her 'motherly attitude', humility as former housewife before becoming a President of the Philippines and with caring heart during her term as a President of the Philippines. She will be missed and may she rest in peace.
