Recently, the buzz and campaigns about products that are grown locally has been gaining its market emphasis.  While this is not a professionally focused topic, we feel that the quality of food that we eat provide a greater healthy perspectives on the way we work and healthier body functions.

In California, this campaign is growing and is influencing many more individuals who are buying and looking for products and produce that are grown locally.

There are many advantages when, as consumers will buy locally produced products and vegetables. Each state and city has local products that consumers can enjoy.  These products will help you gain better health.

For example; in Portland, Maine, Pastor Chuck Orchard's produces and distributes to selected supermarket that carry locally grown and organic products. Look for 'Apple-based sauces and butters'

What this means to you?

1. Consuming locally and organically produced vegetables and fruits - you are helping your local economy to grow particularly you are supporting the farmers who are working hard to produce them

Work and Holiday Agreement Took Effect between Australia and Argentina

The Memorandum of Understanding for the Australian Work and Holiday Subclass 462 visa and the equivalent Argentinian visa signed between the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Chris Bowen, and the Argentine Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Mr Pedro Villagra Delgado, at Parliament House in Canberra, took effect in February 2012.

"Work and holiday agreements allow young people to immerse themselves in a new and different cultural experience while also fostering wider economic ties and dialogue between governments," Bowen said. "This agreement reinforces our mutually beneficial relationship with Argentina, which is based on shared interests, greater economic cooperation, and growing trade and tourism links."

Argentina is the latest country to agree to a reciprocal work and holiday visa agreement with Australia, joining other countries including Bangladesh, Chile, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Turkey and the United States.

Argentine university-educated youths can obtain an Australian Subclass 462 Visa allowing them to work, study and live in Australia for one year.  Australians can obtain an Argentinian Working Holiday Visa under the same eligibility criteria. There will be an annual limit of 500 work and holiday visas for both countries.

Australian immigration's Subclass 462 Work and Holiday visa differs from a Subclass 417 Working Holiday visa. It requires an applicant to have the support of their government, hold or be studying for a college degree, and to speak functional English.

What this means for Australians and Argentines?

It is a unique opportunity for university-educated Australian and Argentine university-educated aged between 18 and 30 years old to work and holiday in each other's country for up to one year. 

This is another mechanism that will mold a strategic cultural integration of young adults and professionals who enjoy learning and traveling. This opportunity will open doors that will enrich one's life.

Shanghai - Reevaluating Expatriate's Conveniences

The popular city of China called Shanghai, is one among the favorite destination of many multinational companies that employ Expats from across the globe, is currently reviewing steps in easing visa validity of  their multinational workforce.

It was reported by english.eastday.com, that "The Shanghai Commission of Commerce is working with the city's exit and entry administration to allow foreign employees of multinational corporations' regional headquarters to have longer visa validity," said, Chen Xianjin, the commission's vice chairman.

Today, expats who are living in the city has a one year visa and renewable annually.  Only the big organizations with sizable employees and senior management officials can have longer visa validity.  There is an intent to institute  about preferential treatment for multinational organizations so that they can have a longer visa validity. At the same time, to encourage other organizations to establish their operation which will bring economic growth in Shanghai. 

Few leading organizations in Shanghai admonished that visa validity should be aligned to the length of the contract of an expatriate. In that way, the employee can focus on his job and responsibilities in a long term instead of an annual basis. 

However, there are reservations of other multinational organizations that are based in Shanghai because of some parts of the initiatives where social security premiums will be imposed to expatriates and employers like their Chinese counterparts. They argued that it will increase their costs in doing business in Shanghai.

Academic Advisory Council with Homeland Security

On March 1, 2012, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano announced the formation of the Homeland Security Academic Council (HSAAC).

The Homeland Security Academic Advisory Council (HSAAC), will be advising the Secretary and senior leadership at the Department on several key issues that will facilitate better collaboration between academic communities and homeland security.

“The formation of this Council represents an important milestone towards engaging the academic community in our homeland security efforts,” said Secretary Napolitano. “Their collective expertise will be a critical asset to the Department, and I look forward to working with them.”

The group will be chaired by Dr. Wallace Loh of the University of Maryland, and they will tackle in providing advice and recommendations on issues related to student and recent graduate recruitment; international students; academic research; campus and community resiliency, security and preparedness; and faculty exchanges.

The inaugural meeting of the council is scheduled for March 20, 2012 in Washington, D.C.

Perspectives:
1. The intent would be an advantageous initiative that will improve better relationship between immediate entities that relate to the development and community security

2. It may pursue better handling of  "possibilities of threats to security" that can cause tremendous disruption to the country where students are involved

3. It may facilitate better use of graduates, faculty, research and international individuals who might be able to support the larger community through economic prosperity, community security and preparedness

4. The results of the Council's efforts will remain to be seen, dependent on outputs and demonstration of its impact to the community at large and homeland security
